World Cultural Heritage Zuojiang Huashan Rock Art in High School Art Education: A Review
Abstract
World Cultural Heritage plays an important role in preserving history, culture, and national identity. Zuojiang Huashan Rock Art, recognised as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 2016, reflects the history, beliefs, and artistic achievements of the ancient Luoyue people in Guangxi, China. However, its integration into high school art education remains limited. This review article examines the importance of incorporating Huashan Rock Art into high school art education from the perspectives of cultural heritage education, multicultural education, interdisciplinary learning, and Discipline-Based Art Education (DBAE) theory. Based on a review of previous studies, the article highlights the educational value of using Huashan Rock Art to enhance students' cultural awareness, artistic appreciation, creativity, and understanding of cultural diversity. It also identifies existing research gaps and discusses how heritage-based art education can support cultural preservation and improve teaching practices. The review provides a theoretical foundation for future curriculum development and research on integrating World Cultural Heritage into secondary school art education.
