Teaching Internship Triumphs and Struggles
Abstract
Being a teacher is not just about delivering lessons and providing feedback; a teacher must be genuinely interested in helping students and must have the passion for teaching, with strong work ethics, and positive attitude. The study employed a cross-sectional design to determine students' triumphs and struggles. This study also aims to help Teacher Education Institutions address teacher interns' primary needs and concerns. Results of the study revealed that lesson planning is the primary struggle, the method or strategy and formulating objectives are the main concerns regarding lesson planning. This struggle is followed by the demonstrations teaching, where lesson plans and self-confidence are also the main issues. Other struggles of Teacher Interns are time management, preparation of instructional materials, and classroom discipline. To address these struggles, recommendation includes mentoring, feedback, and advice from course instructors and cooperating teachers, seminars, webinars, lectures, and family assistance and support to lessen Interns’ struggles. On the other hand, intellectual, personal, and emotional advantages are the significant triumphs achieved by the Teacher Interns. Intellectual benefits include familiarizing oneself with the strategies and methods of teaching, improving communication skills, and learning from the lessons they teach while for personal benefit, Interns became more prepared to be assigned to any teaching assignments. On the other hand, stress management and maturity are some of the emotional benefits gained because self-confidence has been more developed.
